2000 Students celebrate with UI Black Chorus at All-Campus Worship
Over 2000 students gathered at the Foellinger Auditorium at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Campus to worship God this evening. All-Campus Worship is held once a semester and the UI Black Chorus, directed by Dr. Ollie Watts Davis, were the special guests for tonight. There was no preaching, but a lot of high- intensity spirituals and gospel-style worship. The atmosphere was electric as hundreds stood through the choir performance, hands uplifted, singing, clapping and dancing! For me, it was a precious opportunity to find out how Afro-Americans worship - definitely more expressively than what many of us are used to! Even greater than the music was how a body of believers of all races united together to worship - truly a testimony that we are all One in Christ.
Example of a Small Group Worship
The first worship I led here in Illinois! This was for the Singaporeans' prayer group. The Bible Study leader asked me to prepare a worship around the theme of remembering our salvation, not being ashamed of the gospel, being challenged to be set apart and holy and be accountable to one another. After prayer, these were the songs I felt we were to sing, in order.
- In the Secret (Andy Park, Mercy/Vineyard 1995) G Maj
- All I once held dear (Graham Kendrick, Make Way Music 1993) C Maj
- Potter's Hand (Darlene Zschech, Hillsong Australia 1997) G Maj
- A New Commandment D Maj
- In Christ Alone G-A Maj
God's word in Philippians 2 and 3 spoke strongly and I found that many of these songs were confirmed by what I read there. I led with the guitar. I really enjoyed this time of ministering, and I thank God that my leading skills haven't grown rusty!
An Apology...
Some of you may have been wondering what happened to the July/October '98 issues of Worship Quarterly. Well, several things have been occurring in my life. As some of you know, I was serving National Service from Jan to Aug 1998, and did not have time to update this site in time for the July issue. And after August I flew to the United States to further my studies, and in the midst of adjusting to my first semester there, I missed the October issue. Excuses?? Well, maybe it's my preference for quality output rather than rushed productions.

What's new...
Besides new worship album and sampler reviews, I have written about the different styles of sunday worship I encountered here in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. And as requested by one of my guests here at Worship World, I have written an article on "flowing in the Spirit". This shows that your feedback is taken seriously. Do browse and admire the improved interface! May God bless you as you explore!
