God is Good

Worship Leader: Don Moen

Integrity Hosanna! Music 1998

Don has captured the spirit of worship in his quote. I tell my new worship leaders, that the ultimate purpose of their job is to bring their congregation into the presence of God, where there is fellowship and two-way communication. And this sense of intimacy with the Divine is clearly apparent on Don's latest worship album - "God is Good".

For many of us, this album is a reminder of how God had worked in our past lives. Don has chosen old, familiar songs. Songs like "Praise Looks Good on You", "I Offer My Life", "Be Magnified", "God Will Make A Way", "God is the Strength of My Heart" and "Shout to the Lord," arranged orchestrally in a lush, refreshing style, remind us of the times God had ministered to our spirits in worship. As worship leaders, we should not be so caught up with keeping with the latest songs that we leave older songs up on the shelf. Oversinging can cause songs to lose their freshness, but God can use old songs equally well as new songs.

At the same time, Don brings "We've Come to Bless Your Name", "Let Your Glory Fall" and "Hallelujah to the Lamb", songs which we've been introduced to on his previous "Let Your Glory Fall" album. This is a good demonstration of a worship leader principle - the learning of new songs should be reinforced by singing on more than one occasion.

This album follows in the style of Integrity's most successful albums, with a mass choir, an enthusiastic 7000-strong congregation, long, skilful instrumental solos, and even a surprise guest! The final resounding anthem, "Our Heart", the prayer song of churches worldwide, is sung by Ron Kenoly, one of Integrity's most famous worship leaders!

If you only could purchase one album this month, I believe that "God is Good" should be your choice. As you listen to it, may God also work in you and show you His goodness in new and refreshing ways!
